Catfish for a central american tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So just a jaguar?
You can do:
any large pleco
Pictus (like to be in groups)
hoplo

But those have already been stated. Have you considered loaches? A big school of clown loaches would look amazing. But there are others you could use. :)

I cant seem to find either of those tetras for sale anywhere. Do you know of some places that sell them? How about any other schooling or shoaling fish that would work in this tank? I was looking at congo tetras but they are a little pricey if they become fish food.

Maybe the infamous bucktooth tetra?

Tinfoil Barbs ?. Why spend good money on fish it may eat or kill? Tinfoil barbs are a well known and highly successful dither for Central and South American Cichlids. I would get 5 or 6 of them, you definitely have the room. Their presence will make the Jaguar less shy and more likely to be on display more. Just make sure the barbs are big enough to not be a meal right now. How big is your Jaguar?

Hes pushing 9” as best I can measure while hes in the tank. When I move him I will get a true measurement.

When he was about 3” and was still with the other 4 jags I bought together I threw in $30 worth of tetras to see if they would survive. They didnt last 3 hours lol. Same with my tank with my JD, Texas and convict and thats a 150 gallon tank and they were all about 3” at that time. I had bad luck trying to get dithers to live.
