I'm setting up a 180g in a couple weeks and need a catfish for it. A good scavenger. Something that will find that shrimp that went under the driftwood. I'm looking for something unusual but still available, even if I have to order it and ship it in. I was thinking of a Tigrinus, but not sure if it would be too big or will get along with the other fish in there? Any suggestions?

Stocklist so far:

1- P bass
1- Florida gar
1- CK
1- Red Hi-fin Wolf
1- Tinfoil barb (target practice)
1- gib Pleco

get a albino channel cat

u could get a lima shovelnose or a small rtc. they have sensitive whiskers so they can find almost any hidden food. or if your just looking for bottom dwellers than bichirs are ok.

There's no such thing as a "small" RTC... Get a marbled pim or LSN...

some pet stores sell baby 3inch red tail catfish. they dont grow that fast, people exaggerate too much about their features.

No rtc's. Way too big. If shovelnoses are good scavengers, I'll go with a Tigrinus or Jur. Shovelnose. Will a tigrinus be ok with the rest of my fish?

A tig or juruense will be fine with your fish. What do you mean exaggerate about their features? They will still grow larger than 5 feet. They will grow to 20" in a year, how is that an okay fish for ANYTHING under 1000 gallons?

Bump.

IMO I have both a TSN and a LSN and neither are great scavengers. I feel the tig would be about the same. The best scavengers IMO are syno species, loaches, or smaller bichirs.
