Go and have a look on Planetcatfish.com

My suggestions would be
Oxydoras Niger 3ft :naughty:
Megalodorus Irwini 2ft
Leiarius Marmoratus 2.5ft :naughty:
Brachyplatystoma juruense 2ft :naughty:
Sorubim lima 18"

I don't recomend tsn because they spook easily and end up breaking their nose on the side of the tank. Both tsn and rtc get huge and since you have an open mind on what catfish you want I'd look anound. There are plenty of stunning big cats out there. If I were you I'd buy niger, marmoratus and juruense.

so is that a no go on t he rtc? id be willing to go 10x4 or maybe even pond size.

imo you could very well start with a rtc or tsn in that size tank and go from there. (it is much larger than what most keep theirs in) and then see what kind of genetic fish you have, not all fish are destined to reach the same size and it seems that your willing to do what it takes for your fish so that if it does outgrow your tank you'll go pond. so i vote go for it if that is what you want and then go from there. that tank already offers a huge head start from what many people end up with.

If you really want a rtc then go for it. Do you already have an 8x4 or are you looking to buy one? 10x4x3 would be a good size for a rtc imo. If you already have an 8x4 Raise the cat in that and then get a pond when he's really big.

im exploring my options at this moment, but im looking at tanks upwards of 10x4 or 8x4
