its not entirely true
asian grass carps they can actually make an industry out of it, dog food, or human food. after all its a good eating fish
Not really. Grass carp are NOT these jumping carp, its bighead and silver carp are jumping carps. Grass carp are not good eating fish either. You dont mention if they are positive benfits in the waterways. Grass carp often destorying aquatic plants that provide spawning places for fish and food for waterfowl. Jumping carps often eat the same food that newly hatched native fish and paddlefish eats. There are few rivers that have starving buffalo fish and fat asian carps. Asian carp pose threat to boaters and skis. I heard two people have been killed by these jumping carps. Remember these carp ARE NOT little fish. There are TOO MANY asian carps than native fish in the same waterway..that is not normal.
piranhas do coexist with animals and humans in south america, and most have not been neutered or castrated
Actually piranhas often take a bite on cattle, horses and donkeys when they are cross the rivers during dry season. And some rivers have real man eater piranhas while other rivers dont. A nesting male piranha is very aggressive that they will attack swimmers if they are too close to the piranha nest.
zebra mussels, may have an impact on over filtering the water, and decreasing the population of the alewifes and prey for larger salmonids, but the salmonids, trouts and salmons were not native to the great lakes to begin with. and there is no issue of extinction to deal with, after all, they're mostly all hatchery fish released for "game"
Actually there are few native salmonids in Great Lakes such as lake trout, brook trout and few whitefish/cisco species. There are no native alewifes in Great Lakes, they were invaded into. Sadly there are few rare whitefish/cisco species who may will be extinct in few years. Excatly how Zebra mussels decreasing alewife populations?
tilapia, as much as you don't like it, its one of the most widely distributed food fish around the world, feeding over billion people. after all, human lives are more important right?
Sadly these tilapia are important IN aquaculture, not in the waterways because of feral tilapia's inferior taste. Feral tilapia and aquaculture strains tilapia tastes very different from each other. What benfits of tilapia TO the waterways? Beside fishing and being prey to other fish.
ruffe, all the years of fishing the great lakes, I've not caught one ruffe, are they really putting a hurt on the introduced "game fish" like salmons' eggs? rusty crays? they feed the game fish such as large mouth and small mouths!
Ruffe often eat eggs and fry of walleye, yellow perch, bass and other native fish and overpopulated because there are very few predators to prey on ruffe. We have a proof that the walleye and perch populations are already decreasing, ruffe cause that.
Rusty crayfish often take over other Native crayfish species's habitat and overpopulated in some lakes. There are few lakes in Minnesota that has problems with rusty crayfish take over the swimming areas and even predators cant put a dent on the overpopulations of rusty crayfish. I saw a lake that has this problem, I just cant believe that there are so many of these rusty crayfish.
people really need to have a more open mind about things.
