Just be careful, clean, and respectful when you do the changes. Don't slop buckets around the house.

There's got to be a nice way to prove to her how stupid she is. I suggest printing some basic info on waterchanges off and leaving it on the counter or something.

i think the problem goes much deeper than the fish, and his aunt could care less about the fish when their whole family seems to be crumbling, and who could blame her, read his blog. ditch the fish as their certainly not properly cared for or helping smooth things over with your family, get your life straightened out, and start over when things are better.

if she tells you no water changes then you cant go and do it anyway when she is letting you live in her house. if you do water changes anyway your gonna be out on the street then what good is an extra filter gonna do your fish.
you need to get out of the game for a while till you get sorted out. you say you love your fish and would do anything for them. if thats the case get out of the hobby until your in a better position to provide even basic care. your not showing them love by doing what your doing.
love would be giving them up to someone who can care for them properly, which you cant do in your current situation. from what i understand from your blog you have had a hard life up to now and fishkeeping along with MFK is your escape and thats great that you have a coping mechanism but subjecting your fish to life of cruelty will do nothing for your self esteem. get yourself together first then go back into fishkeeping. you will be the better for it.
i cant possibly imagine what you have been through but i can understand your reluctance to give up fishkeeping cos i had to for a couple of years till i was in a better and more settled position to care for them.
