Well I came home from work today and my full grown severum was dead. Not sure what happened, the night before it was eating fine, was swimming around fine in the morning then dead. So now the tank is looking a little empty.

Looking for suggestions on a good center piece fish. Something around the same size, looking for something with coulour. Maybe some sort of oddball. Or I might just get another severum.

Tank is 6 foot 125 gallon

Current stock is:
6 angel fish of different sizes
4 gouramis
4 black skirt tetras
1 black beard algae eater
1 red tail shark
1 bristlenose pleco
1 kribensis

Sorry to hear that. Losing a fish is never fun.

I would just get another Severum. I love those fish. If you don't want to you could try a Chocolate Cichlid. They get to a good size and are peaceful, but I'm not sure that they'll have the color that you're looking for.

Even with another severum you might have some aggression issues with those angels/gourami. Plenty of options, but I suggest buying your fish smaller and growing it out in that tank. That's assuming you want another cichlid.

And if it were me, I'd look real hard into why your severum died before tossing more fish into the mix. For all you know something could still be wrong.

Best of luck.

Check the water parameters. Something may be wrong with them, and that could be the cause.

I checked the water last night. Everything was normal. Tank was a little warmer than usual due to a bit of a heat wave, but temp was only 79F

I would buy whatever new fish I get small, always more fun to see them grow and change.

I may go with another severum, but I wanted to see what other options there are out there first.

hard to choose another "centerpiece" fish besides a Severum to fit in with your bunch of fish. My ideas would be; Red texas,Banded Leporinus, flagtail,Keyhole cichlid,Uaru, or maybe even a big geophagus. not too sure.

Add more angels and have a center "school" instead of a centerpiece? That's what I'd do. :)

Also, do your skirt/widow tetras nip at the angels and gouramis? Mine are c**ts and nip at everything and anything when they're in the mood. :)

I think another severum would be best. Even the most tame suggestion here, the chocolate, I've heard they can be aggressive. I know someone that had one that killed his Oscar haha.
If you plan on keeping the Angels I think you're pretty limited on choices. I personally would go with a severum.
