I need ideas. A large fish with color for a 66x20" tank. I have looked into a few, but cant help but feel like I am just skimming the surface. The fish needs to survive weekends alone, so a predator is ideal since they can go longer without food. SInce i will be there only for maintenance, it should eat a good pellet food. Besides that i'm open to anything. What i'm trying to ask is, what would you do? I am planning on black sand/gravel with black rocks and a black background. I want something with contrast. All i see is oscars, JD's, GT's and jaguars for big cichlids at the LFS.

Get Festae, or beani

Beani have problems with bloat, don't know if that's the best fish for your situation.

What about something like an Amphilophus species? Maybe just a nice male Midas? Or similar... There's a lot of options out there.

Am I right in understanding you just want a single fish?

The 20" width restricts you a little bit IMO. Personally, I wouldn't want to put any fish in there long term which had any chance of going past about 14". If it was an active species of fish then a max length of 12" would be more suitable.

I'd say the suggestion of an amphilophus species is a good one. Maybe a flowerhorn, if you want to impress clients (is this a work tank ?)

get a jaguar they look great when older, or an umbee

WAY too big. There are smaller parachromis species if you like jags. There are a lot of medium/large cichlids that could work, but they don't all have a lot of wet pet personality if you're going for a single fish.

Hey, I thought this was the CA/SA section, not the hybrid section! :D

Amph. Red Isletas would definitely be good for you, doesn't get passed 11", definitely a wet pet (at least mine is), and its got great colors once it matures!

An endangered CiITES approved microchipped Asia Arowana. the fish fo choice for mafia don, businessman and politician in Asia

I know they are found at LFS and big chains, but I'm going to say a GT. Males get impressive color (I don't care how "common" they are, they still show outstanding coloration) and you can keep something else with him like a small pack of clown loaches and then a school of larger body tetras.
