Central american pair for 35g???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I feel as though I'm just picking holes now...
First suggestion in an SA, so unfortunately isn't the direction I want to go. The second is too similar to a con, which I have kept plenty before.

Oops, I thought you said SA was also ok.

Not to worry. I current have an SA biotope so I feel its only fair I even it up. I have been looking at Neetroplus nematopus, any on have info on these guys? A possibility?

Salvinis were definately a thought, along with varients of the Thorichthys species. Thankyou :)

I think there are plenty more species out there, they are just much less common. That being said, neither Salvini or Ellioti or such is available locally. I may enquire about some of the Salvini Dan has at COA. Unless Jeff can get some in? Its easier to obtain from Jeff in the UK. I have nothing against Dan.

Many of the fish suggested will get too big for the tank. Sallvini and nics are awful suggestions because they can get 8-10in. Plus salvini would rip eachother apart in this small of a tank. Because of the footprint you have you are limited to fish in the 4-6" range and 6in may be pushing it. 24" does not leave much room for a female to escape a male so you will end up with problems. I would look for fish that stay around 4". I have never kept neets but I have read they are highly aggressive. I would not keep them in this tank. If I had your tank I would look into Archocentrus nanoluteus. They stay small and are pretty hard to find. That or HRP for they stay very small as well. Add some swordtail dither fish and you have yourself a little CA biotope going.

I have to say I was thinking some of them may get too large. I did a little search on sals and some sites say 9" max, some 6". So I was a little unsure, if they were nearer 6" I would probably get away with it at a push. As foor neets I have read they are aggressive, but I read tgey aren't aggressive with eachother? I may be wrong, just something I read. Just short on the opinions. Thanks for the input though :) I will look into it. HRP's aren't of too much interest, too similar to cons for my liking.

But thanks for putting things into perspective - things are only at the planning stage so far. So hopefully the stock list would end up right in the end.
