Central American Tank Scavenger?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
if you want something that you can see during the day I'd recommend the Syno as well but if you want something that you drop in and if you are lucky you see it twice a year I'd recommend a striped or spotted Raphael cat.

Hey House...I have to aggree with Reiner. If your not looking for a scavenger to be in the spotlight go with raphaels. When my lights go out they are like 2 busy bodies. Ive down sides now but they've been housed with jags, doviis, motas, oscars(oops...SORRY),midas, and they are still alive. Just give them proper to hide out durung the day. But if your looking for do-do eater keep looking.

you can also go with some of the smaller pimelodids like 4-line pim. depending on the cichlids

I have an s.eupterus that I wanted to get out of my gf's community tank because its starting to get vicious. I was floating the bag and my oscar bit the bag fairly aggressively. Do I just put him in and hope I don't have to do delicate removal of spines from my oscar or will he get a closer sniff and think, 'no thats not tasty'.

Raphael stripe cat

Thanks for the input fellas... I think Reiner and Calicichlid are right on. I've had those Syn. cats and believe they start sucking on your fish once they get larger. Now.... where can I locate some of these Raphael cats? Any LFS so I don't get grilled on shipping again?

raphael cats are nocturnal and don't do a whole lot, right...?
you also have to think about what kind of substrate you are using... large pebbles are going to be challenging no matter what the scavenger is unless you have a huge giraffe cat or something.

I agree. Go find a giraffe sean but if you want to give it a try. we have some raphael at the store, they are small though and some of them got beaten up pretty bad by the rainbow sharks that kept picking at their skins.

Go find a large geo :), they should do the trick.
