Central American Tank Scavenger?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I got my two additional synodontis today. The floor of my tank has never been so clean, lol.:D

I have Synodontis ocellifer that went head to head with my red devil. Pretty aggressive and can hold their own.

I've been setting up my Central American tanks and need a recommendation for a scavenger(s) that can with stand the aggression of these cichlids. One of my tanks will have Clown and Yo-yo Loaches since the cichlids are still fairly small...... but my larger CA's will need something.... any recommendations?

I have A Eupterus in the pond that's a foot long. Here's photos of the fish when it was in a tank. Not sure how well it will do as a scavenger.

I never knew that got that large. I thought around 8" or so was their max.

Raphael is the night time cleaning crew. I have been in my fish room (basement) at night with just the TV on and watched my Raphael clean a 180 gal from top to bottom, even the algae on the glass. You won't see them in the light, but they require no maintenance and are very tuff.

FYI - My oscar has eaten cory cats.

i would recommend pictus cats, Raphael cats, and bublebee cats. bublebee cats are very small like 3", but they are quick and only come out during feeding so they are passed up by larger cichlids. I would try all of these like 3 pictus, 1 raph and 1 bumblebee, worst comes to worst it doesn't work out. just try different things untill you find out what works best for you (and i am not sayign ahh if one gets eaten who cares just what i think will work.)

Clown loaches should be fine. They are elusive and look great. Some of the really large cichlids may try to eat them (or die trying to). Just pay a little more for a larger one. However, they don't do much with algae.

what about a cory from sa named briski or somethin like that they get too like 6 inches and are armored corys anyone tried these.

you have to remember though that there is the giant bumblebee cat which gets around a foot or so, they'll eat anything that'll fit into their mouths but that's most cats right? plus they're really sensitive to light. i personally really like my striped raphael cat, there was a post a little while back where someone had one that was ten inches or something, pretty nuts.
