So my CA/SA has evolved and I'm contemplating thinning my tank down to 1 pair of festae and 1 pair of chanchos. Its an 8'x32-33" wide by 24" deep tank. What do you think the odds of co-existing are? Or should I stick to the original plan of an all male tank and hang onto a few other amphs that I have as well? Or maybe do the pair of festae and then keep a male chancho, rd, amarillo, and midas?

I think both the pairs should work. If you look on some of guapotemel's videos he has a chancho pair in a Similar sized tank with a big male dovii and lots of Red Devils. I think it should work, it's a good sized tank. Best of luck!

I would just keep what you got and remove either the fish that gets bullied or the fish that DOES the bullying. Only time will tell, dude. You see how much I have crammed into the 125g LOL That would disturb most orthodoxed fishkeepers. Put whatever you want together and just monitor them frequently - 2 or 3 times a day - and check for torn fins and missing scales.

its a tough call, with pairs you really can't predict it. Especially festae, i wouldn't think the chancho's would do too well when the festae spawn. Once the festae get big, they just are nonstop. it can be pretty bad, but then again, maybe it works, but I wouldn't count on it. I would go with a festae pair a bunch of midas. This being better because it wouldn't be a festae vs chancho type thing, they wouldn't be the only threats in the tank. so all in all, a festae pair with midas as dithers would work better

Thanks for all the input. I think for the moment, I'll keep it a tad crowded, maybe try the 2 pairs with a few other amps to spread the aggression. I was more worried about the chanchos killing something, but interesting to know that festae are pretty nasty too. My larger male that jumped, was pretty laid back. Then again in breeding mode everything can change.

2 pairs in an 8 foot tank with other fish? Where are the other fish going to rest if the pairs are on opposite sides of the tank? A female festae protecting eggs will easily defend 4 feet of space.

Well the festae are like 3-4" right now and not breeding yet and no pairing with the chanchos yet. Eventually Some will need to go, just monitoring aggression for the moment.
