Chance of existing together?

Great looking festae! I can't tell size from the picture too well, but great looking pair. My last male festae was 9-10" when he jumped out of the tank...he was very mellow though as far as my mix goes. My current male is 4"...lol Funny though none of the larger fish even pay attention that he or his girl exist.

18"...holy crap I've never seen one close to that size. If my little guy gets that size he'll likely rule the roost.

I noticed that my old male was pretty mellow and then once he hit around 12" he became a glass banger

Good to know. Same with a dovii I had quite some time ago, mellow little guy until he hit about a foot then game over for his tankmates one day out of the blue...

That is normal for dovii. Often people will have like a 6-8 inch dovii and say that it's not as aggressive as it's 7 inch red devil. But what people don't understand is that dovii reach 24 inches! LOL, at 8 inches they are still just a juvenile

Lol, I'm surprised at how many people keep them though. My mentality right or wrong has changed over time that I don't want fish that can grow to the width of my tank. Heck my only tank atm is 33" wide and I don't think I'd try to keep a dovii as anything aside from a solo wet pet. I'm even more amped about the festae though, I was thinking it would max around14" It should get some good size, my tank is on an autodrip, still gets 1 or 2 water changes a week and they get fed way too much...

Thanks for all the input. I think for the moment, I'll keep it a tad crowded, maybe try the 2 pairs with a few other amps to spread the aggression. I was more worried about the chanchos killing something, but interesting to know that festae are pretty nasty too. My larger male that jumped, was pretty laid back. Then again in breeding mode everything can change.
if you really want things to work, a breeding pir could be the straw that broke the camel's back. I DID have a breeding pair of Jaguars in my cichlid community, but they were also super-laid back and chill. If I were you, I would do things the way I do - when I see a pair bonding or spawning I remove them and give them their own tank. Community cichlid tanks tend to be much more successful when there re no pairs
