Changing Gravel

O.p, use a net to remove the gravel, while syphoning right around it simultaniusly. And it will suck 90% of the gunk as its stirred up by the net. Just take your time, and the crap in the water will be minimal.

When adding the new substrate, clean it well first off. But then use a piece of pipe(example;pvc, vacuume extension, ect.) dump the new substrate a cup at a time down the tube straight to the bottom of the tank, and that will minimize clouding, and keep the oscar from injesting it if he tries. :)
 
Some Oscars will eat just about anything :p.
 
When I changed my gravel, I was worried about interfering with the cycle. So I put the old gravel in a stocking, tied it in a knot, and left it in the tank for 10 days. By then I figured enough of the bacteria had got into the new gravel, so I took the bag of old gravel out. No problems.

Ive done the same exact thing in the past. Not sure if it made a difference or not, but deff gave me more peace of mind lol
 
Hi everyone. Thank you so much for taking the time to give me so many helpful suggestions. I really appreciate it!!! I removed the gravel today and Big Boy was a PERFECT Angel. He was sooooo good!!!! I removed it with a cup did my water change and added the new gravel. Thanks again everyone!!!!
