Changing to bare bottom.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't wanna make a new topic here but after I changed to bare bottom my bass like laying the bellies on the bottom and they like play hopscotch acting like a goby sometimes lol is that normal?? Plenty of oxygen so that's not an issue and water is right

I don't agree with your thinking... JMO. The fish do not have bare bottom in the wild, they are territorial, and different settings create comfortability (which reduces stress) for different fish. Here is my set-up for my grow-outs & they all have their own comfort area in this tank. But if they venture into some unauthorized areas they get nailed!:

That looks good man I just feel bad for my fish I've changed there environment like 3 times now :( now I have geos coming Thursday so maybe I should spread the rocks back out ugh I dont know... If I was to add a rock I found outside will it effect the ph?

Some fish are fine bare bottom. Pbass I would say are one of them. Not to diss your set up but I wonder if you're not liking your lay out. I had a river gravel like yours but I switched to a nice sand and liked it so much better as far as looks. And I just switched it again to a black sand Which looks even better. Also have driftwood and some nice silk plants. Over the years I've come to find what looks nice, and even more important what I like the most.

If I were a bass I'd like something else besides my food every day. No structure & no substrate are definitely easier to maintain, but not pleasing to my taste. And if I were a ray I know I'd be happier with some substrate to play in! Plus, doesn't substrate do something beneficial for the health of the fish? Off topic, hayn, your collection looks awesome!

No offense taken at all! Right now I only have a hob so most of my BB is in that gravel I'm gonna have an FX5 runnin in there soon then ill most Likely take it out. For sure going sand in my big tank though. I just ordered some geos so I'm torn between leveling it out or just leaving it the way it is... AHhh lol

I went with black diamond blasting sand in my 300 gallon & that's my favorite look so far! I still don't have lights on that tank & can't wait til I do!
