How often are you supposed to change water in the tank.I have a 120g with a arowana in it. Some pet stores have told me a 10% water change every 2 weeks, some say every 4-6 months , and some say go by the smell. I willask those out here who know what works because of experience. Also I heard that arowanas like tanks with sandy bottoms, lots of plant decoration, and acidic water. Are any of these true?
i have a asian arowana. change 20% water every week. no gravels/plants/deco.

I keep mostly assorted loaches and I try and do at least a 1/3 change weekly on all of my tanks. I test the water a couple of times during the week and if the nitrated are too high then I do another smaller (about 20%) change.

I agree with slapper though.....let the water paramters dictate your schedule.
