Ok I have an errie feeling that I may loose one of my channa gachua. He has not eaten in 5 days, he's skittish as heck, and has very dull color. He's in a 5 ft tank with angels and a delhezi bichir. I don't see any fish constantly picking on the gachua. He'll swim erraticly crashing into the gravel and whatever in it's path. This kind of pissed me off because when I hear the small rocks crashing into the tank I'm fear it may break. I doubt a small rock can break a tank but it still doesn't sound good. He will not eat and just hang out at the filter intake tube all day. This is a fairly new setup so I'm not sure if tank is fully cycle yet. Tank has been running for two weeks with bio media from previous running tank. Damn fish is pissing me off. I've never own channa gachua before so I'm not sure what to do.

channas can stay alive 1 month and longer without food...

so, you should isolate the gachua like deangelo said, its better.

put some hiding place,be sure to use dechlorinated water

yep thats what i think, they need lots of hiding places, and lots of plants, you can also get ready made caves from any reptile store, my snakeheads love them,if you get a big cave you submerge it so there is a big air bubble inside it so they can stay in it for days if they like, this has worked realy well for me:)

also check water paremeters especially ammonia and nitrite, also young snakeheads don't like big water changes, their fine when older but not when small so i don't know if this could help

Water is declorinated according to dosage instructions on the Kordon Nova Aqua and Amquel bottles. There are plenty of hiding places and substrate is smooth gravels. The angels and the bichir are thriving in the tank. That's why it made me wonder what is making the channa gachua freaked out. I will have to get a water parameters test to see what's up. I think he may be stressed out due to his new environment and it's a fairly new setup so in a sense it's same as doing a large water change. If water parameters check out ok then I'll have to isolate him until he is not skittish anymore.

great..i figured it had lots of hiding places and decor since you had the bichir there, thats why i advised you to isolate it...keep us posted on the development, just a little patience dude, i'm sure the gachua will be all right..:)

i wouldnt be surprised if the gachua is getting picked on, but at night or at other times when you totally arent around. fish usually hide around the intake when stressed the hell out, so something must be really freaking him out.

as others have said, either its own tank or some more hiding spots in the current tank would be your best bet.

good luck!!

He's in a 29gal with a divider. The fish is still jumpy and crazy. There is nothing in the tank to stress out the fish other than guppies for feeding. I'm so frustrated and still have no clue why the fish act like this.
