that last pic realy shows the blue,,when bleheri are showing aggression that little bit of skin under its chin skicks down kind of like a beard

Yeh, he puffs his gills out when just about to lunge at one of the climbing perch. He reminds me of a cichlid when he displays to them before chacing them away.

hes coluor is saying gachua, but hes face is saying bleheri:)

i had a gachua that looked like that in the face, has it got ventral fins if not then it could be bleheri or one of the bleheri variants,if it has it must be a gachua or variant

yes i would def say gachua, just looked at the pics again and he has ventrals so got to be gachua and isn't hartcourtbutleri a synonym?

Hi,

this is NEVER a bleherie as some of you just told... and Channa harcourtbutleri is not a synonym fur Channa Gachua it is a dwarf Channa Species fromn Lake Inle which really looks like C.gachua( there are known about 6-7 diffrent Types of Gachua which are diffent in coloration,size..(maybe this are all diffrent species...) You can Identify Gachua from the coloration under the Eye, coloration of dorsal and anal, tail fin orange, white ... breast fins. the markings under the mouth (gills) and the coloration of the eye.. a friend of mine has actually 7 diffrent Types at home and breeds them we will see in future if they all are C.Gachua or diffrent species like harcourtbutleri which realy looks like a Gachua. Have a look here to distinguish yours :

http://fisc.er.usgs.gov/Snakehead_circ_1251/html/channa_harcourtbutleri.html

(read the Charakters )

and here a few pics some of the diffrent colorations /Types (some of them were namend by the people which caught them and brought them here in Germany like Gachua aff. then they used the name of the Lake were they found them..and if they dont knowed the name they called them like Gachua from cinnamon plantation...:screwy: look at coloration of the tails fins and under the eye etc.. these are only 3 diffrent ones.

Regards

Gaetano

Definatly not Bleheri. Have a look at my Avatar.

Harcour.. look very simaler to gachua and co exist in the same area. Both in this region are also small 6" - 7". I found that mine turned out to be the small Gachua Varient. which is surposed to be the most aggresive Gachua. Proven by the fact it beat the $%^! out of my Rainbow Wolf.

I would say you have a Gachua but cannot confirm 100%. Harcours have a diamond pattern along there back that can be hidden depending on mood.
