Channa ID

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
asiatic to me too, they've plenty of band, white spotted, and the big ring located near the tail instead of on the tail.

Thanks all for your help in confirming it's a Channa Asiatica, though I am still rather puzzled with the colour but it could be the settling in effect, or simply variants with slightly different colouration. I still see a lot of gold and all! The lfs didn't know they were selling an Asiatica, hehee, so I got away with a damn good price. coz Asiaticas are rare in SG. I have been hunting for this fish for sometime but meanwhile, have accumulated like half a dozen Burmese snakeheads (pulchra) from the same lfs and still looking for that elusive ornatipinnis. The supply for Pulchra seems to have run dry for the time being, and I'm like going back and forth to that lfs every now and then to boost my collection. I may have got the Asiatica at a good price, but I'm quite sure if I were to handcarry it from China, it would cost a fraction of what I paid!

Let's see how the fish turns out when it settles down, and I will update with more pics in due course. Very excited about this channa!

Got two new snakeheads. Anyone can assist to ID them?
Many thanks!

1st one is a channa asiatica aka chinese snakehead

the one behind the pic on top looks like a c. bleheri or rainbow snakehead

the one in front i cant say for sure cause the colors look faded looks a little stressed

You mean the first first fish? Yep, agree, and it's one aggressive Asiatica too! (IDed, it's a Channa Asiatica)

The second snakehead has intense blue fins, a long body. (Need an Id)

The third snakehead has 35 dorsal rays. (Need an Id)

I have him with my bleheris and he looks different, the fins of this fish are all blue. the bleheris do not have the same blue on the dorsal and the body colour is different as well, and so is the shape of the fishes. It is not a bleheri for sure.

i would venture to guess that the 2nd one is an assam, or a gachua species and the fish behind it if it is the 3rd one is a bleheri, that i am certain:)
