24deg is the highest this fish should be at , and ideally not year round , they are certainly not a species of snakehead to be mixed in a comunity and most retailers have realised this. as they are unsuitable for most people and should only be kept in species tanks prices are now extreamly low on them , infact £30 is no longer considered cheep.

i hope he does well for you , but personally i think that mixture is unfortunatly heading for disaster

cheers col

Hi Col,

yes i was worried about this to be honest as this fish is from a mountain river and generally the water will be fast moving, high in minerals and cold due to it no sitting and baking still in the sun.

I have read reports of them being found in still shallow pooled water which is warmer... not sure of the exact page again as there is very little info on google for them.

One thing i have in my favour is that it was a very healthy and happy specimen which was at 27c for 4 weeks at my LFS... feeding very well on hikari arowana sticks and river shrimp. (I checked this before buying him).

I dont want to go lower than 24c on my community tank and hopefully this will prove to be ok for this new channa... I will definately post back if something goes wrong.

For now here's holding thumbs :)

hi mate your correct , they are found in the foothill streams that are fed from the himalayas , they are from the same genral area as pulchra , in the wet season in obviously rains a lot , the streams are high full of minrals ect , this is exagerated by the snow melting on the himalayas , but in the dry season it is very dry , snow stops melting high up and there is near 0 rainfall ,so very quickly the streams dry up , this leaves pools of water where the fish are trapped , it is in theese pools the fish are collected, they are useally hid under a stone 1 stone 1fish ,never two . at this time ph levels drop allong with oxegen levels ect , we mimic this in the aquarium by fitting a tunze or sieo pump at the surface during winter months and then leaving the surface totally still during summer and adding oak or almond leaves to the water

at 24deg it should be ok , just make sure there is no fish that even look like they might fit in his mouth , this is a big cause of snakehead death ,choking on food that they cannot swallow, they are can be very aggressive and unprodictable fish ornatipinis but with out doubt one of the best looking

good luck with it

cheers col

Can't find this fish in Singapore, although some did come in and were snapped up by collectors. What we have here in Singapore aplenty is Channa pulchra and I own 4 of these as well.
