nelly - ornatipinis are mouth brooders , so if they have spawned you need to keep an eye on the male for getting a lump in his throught .

even if there just mock spawning you are doing extreamly well and a really good sign

cheers col

thanks col, would the male still eat with eggs in the mouth?

He shouldn't but I wouldnt feed them if you think he's got a mouth full of young just in case he swallows them.Just seen your thread on the Ornates congrats again ,it looks like the mouthbrooding thing is a bit of an urban legend with these fish.

the first group are 6 weeks old and 1" long fed exclusively on deshelled brine shrimp eggs.

regards,Jos.

wow they grow quick, i was just looking at mine, boy they grow quick, is that the deshelled brine shrimp eggs? my mate did me a batch of fresh hatched brine shrimp but ewww what a smell and they seemed to only watch them fall.....I feed mine also micro worms and a finely crushed bottom feeder pellet with dried meal worms crushed to a fine powder, this is in the hope that they are not so picky in the future, my pair now will only eat dried meal-worms, ive stocked up on tubs as these are seasonal selling items as in summer the garden birds will find food normally
