Charlie my big Oscar

I would keep an eye on these, they do not look like marks from trauma, as you suggest. These holes, especially the holes around his nostrils, are textbook HITH holes. I'm not trying to argue with you, I'm only telling you what I know to be true in my own experience. There is a parasite which is also associated with HITH... it is not always due to bad water quality. Though you don't provide params., I think it's pretty obvious that you keep this guy the right way. However, have you ever looked into Hexamita? As I said, it might do this guy good just to do some checking, because these don't look like holes from injury, especially the ones around his nostrils.

Agree on good care being provided. You certainly do know what you are doing. But +1 on nostril erosion sign. That's no injury. It's nothing you did wrong, some O's are just more susceptible to it. The theories about causes and cures for HITH span from boring diet, high temperature and nitrates over 20 to stray electric current and carbon in the filtration. When I set up my O this spring, I covered all of these. So far so good.

Thanks for the information. I will seriously look into this. I would not want anything to happen to him. I truely appreciate the advise. :)

They look like sensory pits.Often mistaken for HITH.
Great looking fish.

Sensory pits are tiny pinprick-sized holes arranged in circular patterns. They do not cause nostrils to erode, and they aren't this large.
