Chatuchak Bangkok - More fish than you can imagine

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The price has a lot to do with economy as well, since we are talking about bangkok, i doubt many of the locals are making the same amount as in the US, same with fees for shop rental etc..

Im sure all those things combined make a huge difference to prices of fish... Shipping is just a small part of the overall equation...

Thanks everyone! Hearing your comments makes taking the pictures worth while. If anyone would like me to find a certain fish and the price of it I'm happy to do so also. The fish here are generally 1/6 the price of the U.S., however some are even cheaper but some are also more expensive. For example, I purchased my Pearl Stingray at $130.

CNel, Do you know how much a 10" NTT datnoid would cost? I really want to get two or three and maybe hope to have it shipped to me in the USA.

I was in Chathuchak market last year and took some pics and video there. I'll post it here when I get a chance.

That is an excellent point as Thailand is extremely cheap in generally all domestic products. Even imported fish aren't as expensive as the states however there are a few exceptions. And since I am not Thai and I do not speak Thai they give me the "foreigner price" which can be a %50 increase in price (one fish store owner told me when I tried to tell him how much I purchased a pair of Nile Perch as I was selling them to him; however I am not basing this off just one example. This has happened with just about everything I try to buy.)

I'm not to familiar on species of Datnoid so I'm unsure of what a "NTT" is. However I can ask and do a little research so I know. I think they aren't to expensive, maybe $20 (extremely estimated).

Yes please share!

Oh I forgot to mention, I can ship fish if you know how and if you are willing to pay the price. However, the cost of shipping is huge (as I have been told). Or maybe I could set you up with a vendor at the market? Tell me what you are interested in, if you are interested.

The foreigner price happens all around Asia... So yeah, speaking the language or knowing someone that does is a huge benefit...

I don't mean to threadjack here but there are a few vendors here in the states that now have some nice sized NTT..some of them are close to ten inches. They might be a far cheaper option to having a few shipped from overseas.I'm not sure where Taco Bell is lol!

Yeah I think so too. The shipping will by a few hundred dollars (to my knowledge) and the I don't really know how to ship.

Oh yes in some cases but here the tanks with the best maintenance have the best fish, there is only one store which won't let me take pictures but they generally have very exotic fish which I believe to be illegal.

take the pics when they dont see you, and use a smartphone instead. haha we would like to see those exotic fish u mentioned. :)
