Better go with bigger. You cannot properly house one oscar in a 55 gallon tank. An oscar and anything else would be simply cruel in a 55 gallon tank.

Your 30 gallon tank is a demonstration on animal abuse.

Any one who worked in an LFS knows that as bad has his set up is it's nothing compared to some. Now the expendable worries me. Killing for food or for deffense is very different than killing cause you just dong give a ****. If you can't see a difference there isn't much point in continuing the conversation.
