cheap aquarium sand

i really want to take out the gravel from my 60 gallon and replace it with sand what are some cheap types of sand i could use in my tank, other than the bags you buy at fish store

Pool filter sand or play sand.

go to a park and get some clean sand maybe wash it first though

Get play sand from home depot or lowes. 50 pounds for like $5. Just make sure you wash it real good.

Could also use Silica sandblasting sand. It's a bit brighter than playsand. Similar to what the otherssaid, it's $8 for 100lb bag @ Homedepot.

I use to use pool filter sand and that's good but i wanted a finer sand so i got some play sand and washed it. Both work good and safe so far for me

O ok thanks, I read somewhere that play sand wasn't good for fish I guess that's wrong.

Sorry if this is dumb but how do you wash sand? It would go through a colander.

put in a bucket, nd let water run through it for awhile. Till water runs clear.
