Cheap digital thermometers

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
okay so do i get the glass or the stick , and it seems the digitals are no good that sucks

IMO the stick on ones are crap!

I run a digital and a glass one inside the tank. I like to have redundancy on everything. My Coralife has been good and I have been running it for 4 years now. Reads .2-.5 degrees of the glass one inside the tank. If you want the most accurate reading for the cheapest price, go with a glass one inside the tank.

so get the glass , cool that u had succses with the digital

Iv'e had a couple of the glass ones broken inside the tank by my fish too. Sifting broken glass and little metal balls out of sand was no fun.

If I were you, I would get the coralife digital and a glass thermometer. Just put the glass thermometer in the tank every once in a while to ensure that your digital is giving an accurate reading.

yeah i was affraid my fish would break because they are nosy and hit things on purpose but yeah i should get 1 glass and 1 cheap brand electric thanks

I have a couple coralife digital thermometers as shown in the pic above, and as mentioned it's basically a random number generator, but they are consistent in their inaccuracy so as long as you have an accurate thermometer to calibrate it with it works just fine. I got lucky and mine are within a degree of the real temp.

I guess I got lucky as well as mine is perfectly calibrated. After Brian's post, I checked my Coralife with a few other thermometers I have laying around.

Well I recently installed a Ranco ETC temp controller on my 125, and the temp on both my coralife digital and glass are within .5 degree of each other. I know the Ranco is dead on, so I'm pretty confident using the digital on my other tanks.

Honestly, a digital and a glass thermometer cost less than $10, so why not just get both for redundancy?
