Cheap glass heaters = fish stew

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm staying away from glass heaters after having 2 overheat, caught before any losses, and 2 more stop heating altogether. I've had an ebo-Jager go bad on me so even the so called good glass heaters suck.

my parents used to have a 10 gallon hex and the same thing happened to them...none of the over 100 ballon molly fry survived..

One thing you MUST do is allow the glass heater to acclimate after a water change before plugging it in. If you don't, it will stay on; forever it seems.

I have quite a few glass heaters, and quite a few stealth heaters

The stealth heaters are always right on the money. I set it for 80 and my digital thermometer says 80. No worries.

Glass on the other hand, it varies 2-3 degress either way. I have made Cichlid Soup before but that was my mistake.

Moral is, if you can afford Stealth Heaters, by all means get them.

If you get glass, follow the directions and monitor it for the first few hours. After that, you should be golden.

I had this occur to my fish twice. when i had my 55 gal my oscars would break the glass heaters, fortunately nothing awful happened.

sorry for the loss buddy

i had a stealth go bad on me. and almost could have lost my little pbass cuz i set the dail to 85 and thought it was gonna be that temp so about a week or so later i go to grab the left over krill off the bottom and the tank was cold so i took the digital temp sensor out of my 210 and put it in that tank and it was 76 degrees and i was like wtf i thought these were supose to be good. i could of lost the pbass since they need like 85 or higher since they are only 2inches
