To grow baby tears carpet, yes you'll need Co2 as well as making sure you have an even spread of light over the carpet, or else areas that are shaded may not grow nearly as well...

in my opinion. if you're going to go high tech. go with T5's. since led came out. you can get great deals on T5's. not sure how big your tank is. but i say if you look around. you can find some good T5's for cheap nowadays. LEDS just washes out the tank and fish. T5 with white/pink colormax bulbs are awesome. also you dont need crazy high lights for good growth. just decent enough and plenty of co2 is more important.

i recommend you going to plantedtank.net to read up and browse that forum. everything u need to know about planted tank. and ull get experts on there answering every question

try this http://www.aquatraders.com/ , i know there were stories of faulty ballists in the past but from what i understand they solved that problem and i can say i have had some of there fixtures for over a year and no problems.

Yes a 5lbs tank of injected co2. Those other lights have pretty bad ratings. These are 42.50 a pop and are made for outdoor use so you can imagine the durability.

Questions for anybody who would like to answer.

If i buy 2 HO t5 lights, will it be sufficent enough to grow low to medium light plants? I was thinking if i bought two for now, i could add 2 more later and then add co2. I thoughr that might be a good way to go for now.
And if buy flourite with a layer of sand and gravel, what kind of stuff will i have to dose with?

It really depends on the dimensions of the tank, along with how high above the tank you plan on setting up the lights...

All these factors play into what intensity levels of light your tank will get...

For example on my 50G 36" X 18" X 18" i run 4 T5HO lights at around 22" high for high light tank with even spread around the tank...

It will most likely be a 40 gallon

On a 40 gallon, a dual t5HO fixture can be used if you raise it up a bit. If it sits on the rim then you definitely need to use co2. I have a planted 40 and went through the same thing. You can get decent dual fixtures on ebay and fishneedit for about $50. I have a 4 bulb t5ho fixture but only run two bulbs. One bulb for 10 hours and a second for a noon burst for 3 hours. I'm able to grow plants that require high lighting without algae issues as long as they're not co2 hungry plants. I don't use co2 or dose anything, but do use osmocote+ root tabs.
