cheap tank idea

2. many of these containers aren't "fish safe" meaning they can leach harmful chemicals into the water in turn killing your fish.

I reckon its a great idea. I heard if you get food safe tubs it should be okay for fish.

Hi. I do this a lot. As long as the tub has a food safe logoe on the base, it is ok.

I have been using similar containers when I need to store aquarium water and fish during an aquarium move. I'll have to look into that next time. All of my current plastic tubs might have the logos removed.

I use these containers for the kids turtles (then we release them back into the wild when they get larger). For filtration I use modified HOB (extended hoses). Far as heating I agree on being careful with a heater and the plastic/rubber. For the tubs I usually control the water temp with simple water changes. Room temp is 77 this time a year, etc.

Is that a dead fish in the lower left corner?

I have a similar setup running in case of emergencies, holds about 80ltrs, just got a heater and filter sat in it ticking over all the time, never checked to see if it's food safe tho so will do that next time it's emptied out. Not the prettiest setup in the world but at the cheap price (think the box was £8) when i needed it it did just fine. I don't like using it tho and want it down (thinking of just using one of the many many large poly boxes i have from lfs purchases if an emergency surfaces again)

IM seriously thinking about doing this lol... GREAT IDEA
