Check out my H. Brevis

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
cool.

BATF is like FATF in that it's elongated but no red in fins?

which one FATF or BATF has the yellow fins?

read somewhere that FATF and VATF is infact the same fish?

never quite got this sorted out for myself.

That bubbler pad is 12", check out my photo album.
You'll see I've got a Tat in there, and I've got an oceanic 135 with the corner sumps that are 10" and the Tat is in front of one, the Brevis is just a hair longer than that Tat, I'll try to get a pic of them together. So you can get a better idea.

I do believe FATF and VATF are the same and usually have a small beak like jaw structure and are very colorful at a certain length alot of red or orange and almost always have that rainbow scaling affect from the top down. Prominant teeth that are very structured and equal length in size and how far apart they are.

Brevis generally have more body girth and have a missile like shape.
I have seen Brevis with a yellow/greenish tummy or back, never really a yellow tail, and the stripes on them are usually very apparent and less prominant teeth that don't seem to really keep to any uniformity. This is one of the smallest and slowest growing ATF, and generally the least seen on the market because I really don't think there is an interest for it, so I believe it to be somewhat of a rarity.

If anyone owns one, has any other info or better info, please chime in!

i've got a couple "missiles" but mine have the red coloration bottom side tail fin similar to goliath. sharp beak as well but bit larger than the one in your pic. had been assuming that mine were brevis. but they are small 4inches so far.

the yellow tails might just be lighting. i noticed also the tails of brevis are not as robust but have more of that boomerang shape

here's one of mine.

Mad Ness: Do you not have issues with the Dorado?

There was a thread here a little while ago. I though F and V were the same fish. In the thread there was a picture of a 9" ATF that looked like a V but had a clear tail with a red bottom and no points on the ends. Vits have the points and a much fuller red colouring to the tail.

yea will wait n see what they turn out looking like. hoping they are missle type.

this dorado had its tail bitten off by a big VATF (fluke). put him in this tank and he healed up. As it got better, it started being it's usual self and is back in the tank with 7 other dorados and the vatf. The more dorados there are, the less they mess with other fish. have not tried to mix the shoal of dorados with my other atfs but will do later. i think as long as the atf are larger than the dorados and there's a shoal of dorados 3 or more, then it should be fine. they dont punk the vatf, it's twice their size. problem is dorados grow a lot faster so need to time it.

Nice dorado!!!
They seem to take a minute to get there chops up but it's like a switch when they do and then it's all over for those ATF's if you keep them in there.

ATF's do this also but it happens alot sooner with Dorado, You won't see that kind of behavior with a VATF untill about 18". Be careful!!

Mad I would like to see more pics of that ATF so I can get a fair shake at IDing it.

I am almost positive you have VATF.
