Wow, I don't know why you guys are getting that kind of reaction. My plecos are big fat bastards, and eat on their own time, not just when I feed. A few particular items of food helps to spur that, but not many. In general though none of my plecos will make a dash for the food.

i dont throw in the food and then its a mad rush to it. but when after the big predator of me has gone and they come out they will seek it out quickly and try to gobble as much as they can. its different with more plecos too, its more about a competition for food as well, especially when they are all non passive agressive plecs like those. plecos should never really be fat. thats over eating. they should be always on the look out for food, and kept healthy and lean, like any animal. obesity affects everything, and its never positive

There is obesity and being healthy. Personally I have had much better spawning with plecs with full bellies, that are not constantly looking out for food. Talking with Barbie, her zebras are always kept fat and healthy. Plecos won't really over eat themselves like other species, and will stop when full. Mine will eat at their leisure, but keep nice full bellies.

its just really my opinion to be honest, but ive always they should have enough, but still keep them a bit hungry. maybe its from keeping herps. it would also depend on what you feed them.

of course if you are breeding it is completely different. it is good to get the males fatter in particular, and important the lady gets the right foods

That is true. The ones that are not in my breeding projects are a little thinner, but still aren't overly hungry. They do come out to eat, but not quickly, and very leisurely. Sometimes when they are hungry they do that, but usually they will just come out when they feel like it.

another thing, which again is up to you, but a thinner (not thin, but healthy) pleco is obv. looking for food more, and therefore is out more during, as opposed to the happy fat pleco that can sit on his ass in his nice comfy cave watching the current go by out the window, laughing at the thought that you are trying to find him in the tank, knowing you'll be dissappointed
