Check out this retic variant I came across at a LFS...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I will buy the hybrid theory. I personally own a Peru "flower" and this guy is WAY different. The spots are very irregular and the tail shape really does SCREAM retic! I wish I could have gotten better pics....

nice...

This is not a retic.

They are often seen and sold as motoro sp. Peru.

A cool ray that more people should try.

I have one of those and i can assure you it wasnt it! I guess from the pics you cant really tale. If anything it is a hybrid of "peru flower" and a retic.

The tail I tell you was 100% retic. In the first pic that is his tail tail that wrapped around! Its easily 3x the length of its disk and also clearly the same shape tail of the retic I owned as well as all the ones Ive seen in person and I see them every day at work! Its spots were more like blobs unlike my Peru flower whose spots are circular with some irregulars that still have a defined shape to them. In between the spots a faint pattern could be seen unlike my peru ray who has a base color of tan.

If any one is in the Nashville area they need to take some better shots of this fish!

I cant get a clearer pic as I had just stopped in the shop while passing through Nasvhille.

Here is a paint I did of this ray's and all other retics tails Ive seen.

The tail goes left to right from the disk. The colors indicate what approximatly the cross section in that area would look like. Now I could be 100% wrong but does this very crude paint I did represent the typical retic tail? If not pleast let me know!

EDIT: what in the hell is wrong with the gallery?! :nilly:

I am in the category of: Can't ID rays, but want one with a fury. If I saw one for $70 I would jump on it. Don't see many in MN.

its a nice ray either way what ever it is

alot of the ray experts are jumping the gun on this one, I have owned and seen a few exactly like the ray you have posted. it is a slight pattern varient of a regular reticulata from colombia, it actually resembles a peruvian flower ray but a full body and tail shot will tell the tail. Colombian Reticulata varient.
