Where the bottom of the middle body stripe ends, the angle of the stripe, the taper of the stripe, the crest of the head, etc...
 
Everyone, please disregard the "tail bar" when trying to identify widebars from indo tigers.

Whoever invented the "tail chart" to distinguish the two species is a complete idiot. You'd do well to stay away from it.

the tail stripe thing may not be 100% sure way of IDing tigers but its a very good start point

can you please show me a IT with ST tail stripes i think you will have to look at 100000000 of tigers to find one IF THEY EXIST

me personally wouldnt pay ST money for a tiger with with IT tail stripes BUT THATS JUST ME

as for calling the person who invented the tail stripe thing a fool well i think you are totally wrong to state that as the tail stripe ID is right far more times than it wrong
 
The tail stripe identification may work on a silver tiger, but between the widebar and the indo tiger, it's absolutely false.

I can show you many many variations between the two species that can almost always throw that tail stripe chart off it's credibility.

Just to prove my point, can you guess whether the tails below are widebars or indos?

I've kept and seen many tigers in my day, and I've read up on just about everything there is on these guys. I'm fairly confident that I can draw my own conclusions on these two species, because the truth is, NO ONE really knows anything about them. Everyone's making their own guesses and theories and in the end, since there is no central authority on the proper identification that everyone can agree on, it's a matter of what YOU think is true or not.

According to mIL pic, I have seen one baby out of a batch of six-seven Indo Tigers at my lfs ($20 each), with middle bar swaying all the way back (both side). Hmmm, I think I am going to buy it and try my luck to see if its a ST :D
