so this morning at about 3 a.m. i hear some poping and hissing sounds in the living room so i go to check it out and it is all of the electrical for my fish tank shorting out then i notice the stream of water shooting from the side of the tank directly onto the power strip. I dont know if i was immagining get electricuted when i stepped on the wet carpet because i was still half asleep so i run and turn off all of the power in the house and go back to try and figure out if my canister sprung a leak or what just to notice that the seam on the back of the tank had split about 12 inches down from the top. so freaking out with gallon after gallon of water running onto the floor i quickly grab every piece of hosing that i can find to start getting water out of the tank. In the end i figure about 40-50 gallons hit the floor and now my 20" tsn, 2 15" oscars and a 18" royal knife are crammed in a 90 gallon. not to sure about the damage to the house yet but there is water down stairs and in the dry wall.

Better get ServPro in there ASAP....Fish water + house = mold. Homeowners insurance will cover the water damage but if you wait and mold forms, you could come out of pocket a lot of dough - a lot of insurance policies are excluding or limiting mold damage.
Don't give everyone nightmares!
Tear out the dry wall and rent some industrial fans to blow dry the frame. Mold rarely kills people, but it does destroy immune your system for other badies to get you.
Maybe it would be worth it to invest in a dampness detector like : http://www.damptek.com/
The way i look at it is it could have been alot worse if i was not home to catch it right away considering it is a 220 gallon tank and i was able to prevent most of it from leaking out and all of my fish made it! i have the tank empty and all of the old silicon off and putting new silicon on tonight so hopefully will be back up and running within 3-4 days.
o man.. that blows... but srsly.. call out of work tomorrow and just start rippin up carpet and bustin out drywall... then get a pump sprayer, bleach, a steamcleaner and some fans....
Sorry to hear about that. I agree with what's already been posted, mold will start growing in a matter of hours. I had only 2-4 gallons spill on my carpet, and it was visibly moldy within 12 hours.
awww i hate these storys, scares the **** outta me. where all my big tanks i have in my garage and i nail up all my powerstips so water will not get to them but man i would hate to take out drywall, i live in a townhome so i know i would be in deep poop lol
