i am not sure how old the tank is i bought it on craigslist. it is on a home made stand made of 4x4's and 2x4's. the tank was not completly level it was off by about 1/8th of an inch which i did not notice until last night so i think that might have had something to do with it. if i had to guess i would say the tank is atleast 15 years old but i cant find any name on it.

sheesh....very scary indeed. hope everything works out, my friend.

what an aweful story....its the only reason I keep my tanks in the basement....a little less damage if they break or leak....

Just a quick update i think i have everthing dry have had fans and dehumidifiers running around the clock. i wiped down all of the walls and used a shop vac to dry the carpets and so far does not seem like to much damage but i am sure i will know more in the coming days if it starts to mold. i also re-siliconed the tank and is curing until friday night so i am keeping my fingers crossed that it does not leak. wish me luck

Man that just suck balls.Im always worried to since I live on the 2nd floor.Hope everything goes well.

well the tank broke again saturday night i guess i did not do a good enough job so needless to say the tank is now in trash and everyting is all wet again.

man that sucks, ive resealed 4 tanks now and they are all holding up great, tell us what all you did to reseal it and what brand sealant you used.

id pay quite a bit for a 180+ gallon tank that was just leaking.

also, ALWAYS put styrofoam stuff under the tank on the stand, it makes up for any imperfections in the tank stand.

Post the leaking tank on CraigsList, even if it's in the free section.
It always boggles my mind how many people respond for free cracked tanks when I list them. It's 100 times easier then trashing it, at least for me.

But, back to your problems. Very very sorry to hear it leaked again. How long did you leave it to cure?

i let it cure for about 3-4 days i think. i ended taking the tank back out of the garbage after my fiance calmed down a bit so it is sitting in my basement and i figure i will try again when i move at the end of the year. i think where i made my mistake was i dident clean the glass good enough after scraping all of the old silicon off. oh yeah i think it was all glass aquarium brand but not sure threw the tube away.
