It's hard to say. Bluegills and Sunfish interbreed so much that it's almost impossible to tell what kind it is but it is a big and healthy one for sure. I looked in my fresh water book and it might be a longear sunfish.
 
I can't what till we get sum ice. it will be a lot easier to fish because all the people that Owen houses on the shore wont be able to tell me to leave.

Longears are a threatened species in NY with a very limited distribution in Western NY.
Its a pumpkinseed; 100% and very nice looking.
 
how can you say red ear range is south i catch them here all the time in MI they have been stocked as far north east as Maine

Pumkin seed have a small red dot not a small lining of red along the "ear"
