i dont see any traits of pumpkin seed the color is of and the mouth looks to big to be a pumpkin seed

Color is not always a good tool in species identification; though in this case it is spot on for a pumpkinseed. Colors fade in and out with fishes, as a fish keeper I'm sure you know that. You also need to take into account individual or population variation. Take the time to read the links I posted.

Whats your point? That the color is not identical? Those fish share every key characteristic that make them pumpkinseeds.

If you caught this fish in a lake, it isn't a redbreast or part redbreast as they are a riverine species.

than you better tell the redbreast because they disagree. I rely don't no how they got there. I will tell you this it's not a shallow lake. I might have to get sum readings to see how deep it is.

Where is this lake located? I know you said NY but can you give us a more specific location?
