The Sunny San Joaquin
Siphons can be a pain. My biggest sin was always trying to make the outside vessel too small. I would have just drilled the tank years ago, but it is tempered glass.

On the 55g patio tank I run one 4" standpipe outside and 3" overflow inside, with a 1.5" siphon. No emergency drain, just a huge siphon and nothing in the tank to clog it.

These things can work OK if you get the proportions right, and check them periodically, or they can be noisy, dirty and hard to start if you don't.

Last night I heat-welded another Poly siphon pipe & built a new overflow from some old bits: 2" inside and outside and 1.25" siphon. 1.5" drop to a 1" valve.
