An oto is ok tho I would only add one or two for a 20 and maybe a few more for a 40. Cherry Shrimp are one of the easiest to keep. The primary thing's to remember are: Don't overfeed! Only as much as they will eat in 2-3 hour's, leftovers should be removed. Do 30% weekly water change's. Make sure temp is around 72-75, no higher than 78.
Another very good thing to do is add a small amount of java moss or marimo moss ball's, they will forage on this for small microorganisms their food does not provide.
If you follow the above as a guideline you'll have so many Cherry Shrimp you wont know what to do!
Rcs require very clean pure water, preferably filtered by a reverse osmosis water filter. It is common practice to use 75% ro water for most grades and as much as 100% ro water for the more sensitive higher grades.
There are so many cool "easy" shrimp. Easy as in if you can keep guppies...there's red cherry, yellow, snowball and blue pearl shrimp. All very easy to keep and absolutely gorgeous.
And usually available on AquaBid.

BTW, if you cherries are still being picky eaters it maybe time to look into foods designed for shrimps/prawns... i personally feed used to feed my shrimp JBL Prawn Novo... and i still feed my crays this food with no ill effects...
want some advice??? for rcs breeding use ADA soil don't over feed or you'll get planaria worms. put some water milfoil in there for the shrimps. use water thats been de- chlorinated and soaked with a active carbon filter pad. if you don't have carbon in the filtering system of the main tank. water that comes out from the pipe head might contain copper or other harmful metals that the shrimp are very sensitive too. so no metal or metal based products are to be added to the tank period. if all goes well you'll be having babies in no time.trust me it works.i killed off 45 rcs before found out my frequent adding of liquid fert and pipe water was killing them. i now own 65 adults a few pregnant one and a whole bunch of babies in my planted community tank.
^ Definitely agree with the ADA soil... although i find RCS to be a little more forgiving compared to the Crystal Reds when it came to water, but i guess that also depends on where your from which i'm sure makes a difference...
RCS, yellow, blue pearl and snowball are all extremely forgiving of water conditions. And I agree NEVER use water from your hot water tap, it all goes through your hot water heater and is exposed to copper and tons of other metals.
