Good point. Not a very good defense mechanism if you foil a predators attempt at eating you only to die after.

mine almost puffed cuz when i first used the magnet he tried to eat it and i didnt notice and squished him against the sand. he started to puff but i moved it, then he was sick after a while. i think they only almost always die in captivity for some reason. who knows but its accurate

how do you know this is accurate?
 
ive heard many accounts of puffers dying cuz of puffing after stress in tanks and none of them puffing and surviving. only in the wild

this site indicates that it is dangerous for them to puff out of water. it also says it is very stressful for them to puff in water, but nothing about death. i'm not sure of the validity of this info either, but it seemed to make some sense.

good chance thats why he was "sick" not the "almost puff". you be hurting too if someone hit you with something that big by ratio, say a car.
