What of the chances of it being B. lica? You said that it looked different than the thai goonches (which are rutilus in my opinion) you seen, and that's about the same area from what I know. B. suchus seems very elongated compared the other goonch species. That leaves only two other southeast Asian species B. lica and the dwarf. I can't find any info about lica, but I can't find a great deal of info about the dwarf. So what do you think?

Don't know why I didn't think to mention it before, but Roberts (1983) was kind enough to give us a picture of a Thai "yarrelli" that just so happened to be in a picture with another "yarrelli" thats really a rutilus. If you want to see a representation of what I feel is a B. lica, reference the bottom fish in this picture:

Doubtful. The B. lica have a fat, sausage looking body rather like a channel cat and a large-ish tail and a huge head that has a flat profile from the tip of the nose to the dorsal fin, rather like the Indian fish. This little fish has a small head with a curved and convex topline profile and a long, thin body with an elongate teardrop shape and a tiny tail. To me, there's only one thing this could be, a dwarf goonch. :)

Oh and the bite of this fish feels like that of a comparably sized trout.
Oh never really seen one, but based on your description I can see why Roberts could have gotten the two mixed up.

Fat head, lot of spots, seemingly smaller eyes. It kinda reminds me of estrago's second goonch just without the fat head. Thank you

Thanks Matt!

So what do you all think? Male or female? I'm leaning toward female. It just looks feminine when compared to the beastly Indian specimens.

Next day or two, I'm on a 24 hour shift at work and when I get home I'm probably gonna crash. Hard. lol

edit- I know we can't really tell, I'm just trying to decide if I want to refer to it as a male or female.

I think I'm inclined to agreee...

Awesome story and goonch rob!
I'd make it a male so it can be married to Ginger :D

...Because I have one more cat to get, the one who will get the biggest of my three. And it looks masculine. And, as near as I can tell, there's never been a growout thread done on one. ;)

Thanks man!

I feel exclusive for knowing what the third cat's gonna be, lol (I think!:D)
Gonna be hard to find that one though.
