um where r u guys gonna get the dna to clone?

they do have some preserved ones in storage.

I started to say I have gotten some american paddle fish several times caught them and ate them, they are a really good tasting fish

That is messed up why would they do that ? I heard on NG that the mekong catfishs numbers are declining also

perhaps some is preserved and they can use an american paddle to kick it off??

this could be great if they could hybridize it with an american paddle then just breed back. Sperm is available but there are no eggs yet. The other problem is the sperm may not fertilize the egg of the American paddle.

Nature is not taking it's course. This species is not going extinct due to natural circumstances, humans have disrupted it ability to thrive!
extinction by another species due to competition for resources , seems pretty natural to me. ;)

i think there gone for good, unless there is a undiscovered location where a population of them is alive.

i doubt people would take the initiative to clone them, unless a billioniare has a passion for them and would finance it. that is assuming you could find a living one, and its female.

Has anyone considered that if the paddlefish's possible extinction is due to habitat loss and the disruption of it's natural migration (from feeding to breeding areas) by dams, that even if there was a massive cloning attempt that the new population would also decline and die out. Furthermore would a population of clones be more susceptible to diseases due to their similarities. I don't disagree with an attempt to at least try. Just some thoughts.

who would have thought that ceolicanths still exist? don't loose hope. :D
