I can but it is not specific to organisms of the same species. Competition between organisms is only one way of determining if you have "good genes" (ones that are best suited for it's environment). "Good Genes" can also be determined by an organisms ability to survive in a certain climate, ability to find food, and many other factors. The most common reasons for extinction are climate change and loss of haditat.
