Agree on the adipose fin difference but I'd say it is not nearly as dramatic. I'd gauge the difference at "noticeable". Also agree that this fish adipose looks more like ARTC or wyckioides. No $8 wyckii for me

lol remember the easiest difference to look for is adipose and whiskers. I noticed I forgot to mention it, thought I did, but the whiskers in the specimen are also longer than that of wyckiiCan you please be more specific, if you will? What city and what LFS?

Yeah it had crazy long white whiskers while wyckii does not have white ones at all I believe
small wick can have white whiskers... its just theirs are a lot shorter lol
Take a look for hemibagrus wykioides or mystus nemurus as it was once mistaken to be and you will find a catfish to rival a great white shark for reputation. But like most fish, you will find calm ones and mean aggressive ones of any type. Only difference is the size they get to and the damage they inflict. One of my favourite keeps over the past 30 years I have had both friendly and unfriendly ones but your looking at 9 to 12” in 12 months with 24” in 3 years. A real character fish to be kept in big accommodation with big tankmates.
Wykii have a trademark white edge to the top of the tail and top fin although at 4” that might not have come through yet. And yes, they too have the white whiskers. Best way to tell will be any hint of red in that tail.

Best way is the whiskers and adipose since the red comes in at different times. And there is quite a size difference and growth rate difference in my little bit of experience.. neither slow but wyckioides much faster to 2' anyway
