Chinese upside down catfish?

Agree with both Dave and Moe. When a young fish is intact and one can get good photos, Moe is correct. When not, the only quick and sure way is what Dave says... if there is any red / brown / related hue by that size and age.

In the wild, I thought ARTC is a much larger growing fish than wyckii. I expect this to reflect in captivity too. I appear to remember seeing 3.5' ARTC in captivity in a tank. Wyckii hardly ever over 2'.

Max size for wyckii in the wild is 28" wyckioides is 52". In tanks you can find plenty of big specimens I find but none wil say size. Look to be around 20" imo. Arapaimag said his largest was 26" for wyckii. For wyckioides can't say I've seen many grown large but we do have that one member that had his in a pond believe it was around 30" or so
