wow those are some great looking chocolates, thanks for the pics guys. Now I know that they all develop red sooner or later so thats good. I still think my chocolate has a much blunter face than any of yours which is cool cause it makes him kind of unique, hes very similar in shape to my young oscar right now.

the one i had before, started with not much red,i wonder if they try to blend in more if the tank/substrate is darker? could be,my tank was black back, grey, black gravel.

hey Decker any chance you could post a pic of both your kinds of chocolates?

Virgil your chocolate has tonnes of red on now! Mine seems to have a really nice bright green colouration but would be nice to develop some red too

Their color is definitely highly variable, like a lot of other SAs. Severums, parrot cichlids, chocolate cichlids... there are several cichlids that look different from fish to fish. I've grown out spawns of severums that even show major variations among siblings. Chocolates are pretty common around here so I see them regularly, and they range from a bright olive green to dark burgundy colored, and everything in between. Also, because they frequently change their coloration based on their mood, each fish can go through a variety of color changes. Mine would sometimes be a beautiful emerald green color, but then something would piss her off and she'd turn brown and purple. I guess that's the downside to fish like chocolates -- you see a gorgeous one online and think, "I want one that looks just like that!" and unfortunately that's likely impossible.

Since everyone else is playin show and tell here is my pair Young to 10 min ago ago.

I am looking foward to seeing the yellow chocolats.

I know they have a lot of variation between individuals, Its really quite interesting. I cant wait to see the Rio Negro Chocs though (easier than writing coryphoenoides or whatever)
