Just stick to same sex fish if you want a community. Breeding convicts in that setup wouldn't be worth the drama, unless you want to use them as feeders and don't mind your other fish getting beaten by the convicts every now and then.

Wait so if they breed could the salvinis eat them as a good food supply? Obviously thats not the only thing i'd feed them but would they eat all the babies before they got bigger?

Why not get something different and order a small group of Herichthys Deppi from Rapps? He has some 2.5 inch Deppi right now and they are really beautiful when mature and stay relatively small. I think the males will max out at around 7-8 and the females a bit smaller.

oscars have no place in a 55g. if they have the capability of reaching 12"+ they don't belong in a tank that is only 12" wide. come on people

The fact that it can barely turn around doesn't mean it's comfortable. I would like to put you in a 5 square feet room for a couple of weeks and see how you like it.
