Chocolate cichlid

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have had a chocolate for awhile now- it's about 5 inches, living with a similar size green severum, and on and off a similar size black belt cichlid.

in general they are more docile than other CA cichlids, but, teamed up with the severum, they keep the black belt in her place, for a while, anyway. Then the BB has to go back to her small isolation tank for a bit.

I think in essence they work out well with severums and other fish of similar temperment.

my wife has a 6 inch chocolate and he is very peaceful,he lives with a severum some dojo loaches and beleive it or not some fancy goldfish and a betta. it works out well as strange as it sounds.
chocolates are pretty cool though, they chill out and change colors a lot.

Here is a male, the "purple variant", they are sometimes available in LFS. They have nice colors but they don't develope a huge hump.

Nice! Is that the variant that Rapps gets in a lot of the time?! My pair was doing great....then I went away for the weekend and they got tag teamed by my marms....:(. They were pretty docile for the most part, but could be pushy if they wanted to be. Great fish, and the male and female get the looong fin extensions...LOVE their pelvic fins...just looks way too kewl!!

Yeap, they are the most popular and common ones due to their colors. I prefer the less colorful ones that grow big hump.

I LOVE the ones he has as pictures...the ones that turn PURPLE and get the HUGE humps...i can never find the picture on his site though...hold up...oh well I can find it...its a picture of a pair of temporalis on his site...its an AWESOME picture!
