Beautiful set up, rainbow and Chocolate. What species are the rainbow?

Your plants look healthy. How do you keep algae free, which is difficult in heavily stock tank. Do you use CO2 or Excel?

Keeping rooted plants in substrate is a challenge with big cichlid that dig. Have you thought about potting the Crypt?

I only use Flourish and haven't had any significant algae since the initial tank cycle. The crypts grow like weeds so I'm not too concerned about them getting pulled up because the root system is extensive under the sand.

The rainbows are a mix of Australian and Boesemani. The Boesemani have bred a few times in there, I managed to raise a single fry to adulthood. Most of the eggs get filtered out into my canister and filter socks.

Incredible fish. How long did it take for them to grow out to that size?
I've had them for about a year, they were about 1" when I got them. There is a 3rd one in my wife's tank from the original group. It was the meanest of the 3 and not very attractive.
