choker chains on dogs?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
regular collars always hurt my dogs throat, only use harness for walking, in any dire straights moment its much better imo.And if he wont stop sniffing a pile of cat turds you can yank him back hard without hurting him lol.

pinch collars for training choke collars for just whatever, but never use the choke just put it on the dead ring. using the choke collars damage your dogs 100000x more than pinch if your actually choking/strangling your dog due to lack of oxygen. pinch collars dont hurt your dogs, just get their attention.
According to our dog trainer, those "pinch collars" (more like stab collars) can cause a dogs airway to collapse, resulting in suffication.

tried a martingale ? Either way IME most people against choke chains dont have big dogs. Usually its beagle owners saying its inhumane. Try walking a bernese mountain dog puppy without one. Although he has since gotten much better and has a regular collar :headbang2 for me its a temporary solution.
I have always had large dogs (my last dog was a Great Dane mix and one of my current ones is a St. Bernard) and I am more against choke chains for them than for small dogs. Large dogs are capable of pulling a lot harder and don't always stop when they can't breath, so I think there is actually a greater risk using them on big dogs than on small dogs. The best alternative is the Gentle Leader that they sell at Petsmart and other pet stores. Most dogs do really well with it as long as it is put on them properly.

how do they cause that? i would think the choker or regular collars would cause it before the pinch.

the dog would have to pull hard enough to pierce the skin and then collapse i think, i think your confusing it with the choker or slip collars

All of these collars are tools... it is up to the person using the tool to use it properly.. if used properly it should not be needed long term.. the dog learns quickly what you expect and then a normal every day collar will be all thats needed.. some dogs need the pinch... others don't... some dogs are pullers... expecially if you adopt the dog from the pound and he has had little training.. these training collars should be used in the confines of your own yard....or house.... just for training.. i put a regular soft collar on my dog at all other times.. but when i need to go out where theres risks i use a chain collar simply because i don't want under any circumstances my dog to get loose...in traffic or what ever.. i use it as a safety precaution.. if you are going to use a chain link collar you should by the no hair pinch type.... this is my opinion..if you crate your puppy or dog... all collars should be removed every time he goes in the crate... and most of all.. buy the right size collar ... anything that does not fit properly is dangerous..

lol my auntie used to breed and show GSD's for a living and they never once used a pinch collar. yet they did fine for the 20 years ive known them do it. if your having to resort to pich collars then you need to re-evaluate your training programme.

search up shutzhund and ask your auntie if she does that. and if she does i need to contact her cause she must be the best in the world w/o using pinch collars.

+1

When used properly then theres no problem. They can be easily put to regular collars after with the same results. Some need mroe some less.

and +1 on the right sized fitted collars thats the most important

Is it not obvious? Imagine laying on the ground with a heavy-duty rake resting on your neck (spikes down), and then having someone stand on it. Do you think you would still be able to breath? At least with a choker or regular collar, it is a nylon strap or a smooth chain, rather than a spiked piece of metal that is pushing on the dogs neck.

this is not at all how it is used... if it is used like this then yes....do not even think of putting it on your dog.. the pinch collar should be up high on the dogs neck...properly fitted.. you practice its use in a safe only environment.. you jerk back and release as soon as the dog starts to pull.... as soon as he stops you take all pressure off... if you practice this at home... you can put the normal collar on and he will walk perfect in no time... it is not a weapon... it is a tool... many people don't like it because the people do not use it properly... but it works... and works well... and to keep your dog safe for its whole life time... it must respect the leash ...and you...

I think you will die just the same from the pressure on a nylon strap example hanging people.

I think the idea of the pinchers is to deter the dog from pulling hard and you should have to use very little force to get its attention..
