*Christmas* CELIDOS !!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thx. ED! Exceptional Avatar you have ....

Theres are actually two different females in the last photos posted 6.27.10!
Our female - pics #2 & #6 - is going to the ACA convention later this month.
If any one is interested in a mature 'lip-spot' lady for a possible breeder, let me know!

We're hoping to see some fellow 'creniholics' in Milwaukee, it should be another great time with some incredible showfish, we're bringing a few! Will be there two weeks from tonite, an over 1,000 mile road trip!!!!

It's been just over 3 years ago I started this thread! We still have the female, she's been a great Pike! Looks fantastic when she colors-up in the summer. Our local friend Dan H. still has his group of 4!

*** Merry Christmas to all ~ and to all a Good Pike ***

Jon,
What is FastFish feeding his celidos?
Thanks,
--Brian

Cichlid sticks (Hikari/Tetra), Xtreme sinking pellets, krill, shrimp,
+ very seldom live feeders....

3.01.11 Update: Our female started getting that orange color on her sides last month. She is doing well - not nearly as skittish as a couple years past. About 7", beautiful fire-orange iris eyes with gold-ringed pupil.

FastFish's group has changed recently, more later - - - - - - - !

Any recent photos of your female? I went with Ken's group to Uruguay last December and was lucky enough to bring back 4 of these guys in the 3 to 4 inch range. Initially I was planning on selling them but they are such awesome fish that I couldn't! I guess im pretty lucky to have these and minuano as my first pikes!! Well I really enjoyed reading this thread and I hope your female is doing well!

AWESOME!!!
I bought four from Ken, two pairs, which were collected with yours. How are yours doing? Any recent photos?

Yes, you're pretty dang lucky to have this species and minuano for your first pikes! Congrats to you.

No kidding! Thats super lucky! They are one of my dream pikes for sure! :) Wish I could have started off with them, but no, it was sp. 'belly crawler' that got me hooked!

My friend Dan H. / FastFish's group has dwindled in size. The smaller male was chased and harrassed by the other three, even the female attacked him! He died from the constant abuse and aggravation, the others just ganged up and made his life miserable....

Coming out of the winter 'cool-down' period with slight temperature increases slowly, last week the larger alpha male (at least 11") started going crazy and chasing the other remaining male (about 10"). The next morning that fish was dead - sadly shredded! The remaining bonded pair seem happy and hang out together, the male has been moving rock and paying more attention to the female. She is over 8" and Chunky - - - quickly coloring-up with more orange that is deepening. The pair seems content and maybe this Spring they'll spawn!!!! That would be fantastic!

My regret is that one of the departed males was not salvaged - to try breeding with my female....! I will try and get some photos soon to share some 'lip-spot' images.
Thx. for your interest and thoughtful comments, this has been an on-going Pike adventure!!!!

Good luck to all celidochilus keepers, I really hope someone is successful breeding these unique crenicichla, they are very interesting and intriguing.

They are doing great! Started eating almost immediately after bringing them home. I'll post a pic thread once I have time and I like the way their tank looks. Btw Peanut Power you should go on a collecting trip to Uruguay cuz you could come back with some Celidos!!!
